1. Core Structure and Working Principle

The O-belt roller conveyor is composed of six main modules: roller units, drive shaft and transmission section, O-belt transmission system, drive motor, frame structure, and sensing & control system. The overall design is simple, highly modular, easy to install and commission, and can be flexibly configured according to different production line requirements.

1. Roller Units

The rollers are made of galvanized carbon steel, stainless steel, or engineering plastic. The surface is smooth and wear-resistant, with built-in precision bearings to ensure low rotational resistance and stable long-term operation without jamming or abnormal noise.

Each roller is designed with grooves (single-groove or double-groove) for O-belt transmission:

  • Single-groove rollers: suitable for light-duty and small item conveying

  • Double-groove rollers: higher load capacity, suitable for medium-duty applications

This flexible configuration allows adaptation to different material weights and application scenarios.

2. Drive and Transmission System

The system uses an external motor with a reducer to drive the main shaft. Transmission pulleys installed on the shaft correspond to each roller, ensuring uniform power distribution.

Power is transmitted via O-shaped polyurethane belts (diameter 5–8 mm), which connect the drive section and rollers through friction. This enables synchronized and smooth roller operation.

The O-belt system provides:

  • High flexibility

  • Low noise operation

  • Elastic slip protection (soft accumulation function)

When materials are blocked, the belt slips slightly, preventing product damage while keeping the motor running, effectively protecting both goods and equipment.

3. Operating Logic

Materials are transported by friction between the roller surface and the load. Sensors (photoelectric sensors or proximity switches) detect material position and transmit signals to the PLC control system.

The system adjusts motor speed and conveyor operation according to preset logic, enabling:

  • Continuous conveying

  • Buffer accumulation

  • Sorting or diversion

The conveyor can operate independently or be combined in multiple units for straight, curved, or inclined layouts.

4. Frame and Protection Structure

The frame is made of carbon steel or aluminum alloy profiles, with surface coating or anodizing treatment for corrosion resistance and structural stability.

The height is adjustable to match different production lines. Side guards or guide rails can be added to prevent material deviation or falling during transport, improving operational safety.

2. Key Performance Advantages

1. Flexible Conveying with Low Product Damage

The polyurethane O-belt provides elastic contact and smooth transmission, eliminating rigid impact during operation.

This greatly reduces:

  • Surface scratches

  • Product collisions

  • Breakage risk

It is especially suitable for cartons, plastic containers, and fragile items requiring gentle handling.

2. Stable Operation with Low Noise

The friction-driven O-belt system eliminates metal gear meshing noise. Operating noise is typically below 60 dB, making it suitable for quiet environments such as electronics and food production workshops.

The system supports continuous 24-hour operation with stable performance and low failure rates.

3. Modular Design with Strong Adaptability

The conveyor supports customized roller length, width, and speed (0.2–2 m/s), with load capacity ranging from 5 to 500 kg.

It can be flexibly configured into:

  • Straight conveyors

  • Curved conveyors

  • Inclined conveyors

It integrates easily with sorting equipment, push diverters, and transfer systems without major production line modifications.

4. Easy Maintenance and Low Operating Cost

All key components (O-belt, rollers, motor) are standardized parts, making replacement simple and cost-effective.

Routine maintenance includes:

  • Cleaning rollers

  • Checking belt tension

  • Lubricating motor components

No specialized technicians are required, reducing long-term maintenance costs.

5. High Environmental Adaptability and Safety

Protection level can reach IP54 or higher. With stainless steel rollers and food-grade belts, the system is suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and cleanroom environments.

Safety features include:

  • Emergency stop switches

  • Overload protection

  • Limit switches

These ensure safe and reliable operation.

3. Typical Industry Applications

1. Electronics Manufacturing

Used for conveying electronic components, circuit boards, and precision products. Anti-static O-belts help prevent electrostatic damage, while smooth conveying protects fragile parts.

2. Food and Pharmaceutical Industry

Stainless steel construction and food-grade belts ensure hygienic operation. Suitable for packaging boxes, medicine cartons, and cleanroom logistics.

3. Automotive and Hardware Industry

Supports transport of parts, metal components, and trays. Suitable for continuous heavy-duty operation in assembly and production lines.

4. Logistics and Warehousing

Used for carton handling, parcel sorting, buffering, and distribution. Integrates with barcode systems and automated sorting equipment to improve warehouse efficiency.

4. Selection and Maintenance Guidelines

1. Key Selection Factors

Material Characteristics

  • Weight and size determine roller type and belt selection

  • Light-duty: plastic rollers

  • Medium/heavy-duty: steel or stainless steel rollers

  • Fragile goods: polyurethane O-belts recommended

Production Line Layout

  • Determine conveyor length and configuration (straight, curved, inclined)

  • Use variable frequency motors for adjustable speed in high-speed applications

Environmental Requirements

  • Food/pharma: stainless steel + food-grade belts

  • Dust/humidity: sealed motors and protected rollers

System Integration
Ensure compatibility with existing sorting, scanning, or conveying systems for full automation integration.

2. Daily Maintenance

Daily

  • Clean rollers and remove debris

  • Check belt tension and adjust if necessary

Weekly

  • Inspect belt wear, cracks, or misalignment

  • Check roller rotation and motor temperature

Monthly

  • Lubricate motor and reducer

  • Calibrate sensors

  • Tighten frame fasteners

Quarterly

  • Replace worn rollers or belts

  • Inspect drive shaft and transmission components

  • Perform full system testing and backup control parameters

5. Development Trends

With the advancement of intelligent manufacturing, O-belt roller conveyors are evolving toward:

  • Smart sensing integration

  • IoT-based monitoring systems

  • Variable speed intelligent control

  • Predictive maintenance systems

Material upgrades such as high-durability polyurethane belts and lightweight aluminum frames are improving efficiency and service life. In the future, these systems will be deeply integrated into digital factories, supporting fully automated and flexible production lines.
