  • Product description

Stacker Crane Pallet AS/RS (Unit Load AS/RS) is a core infrastructure in modern logistics systems, designed for high-density storage and automated management of standard palletized goods. By integrating high-bay racking, high-speed stacker cranes, and conveyor systems, it transforms warehouse space into vertical storage, significantly improving land utilization and operational efficiency.

System Architecture and Core Components

The stacker crane pallet warehouse mainly consists of three core parts:

High-Bay Racking System
The racking system is typically constructed using high-strength steel such as Q235B or Q345. It is assembled with cold-formed closed-section uprights and beam connections. The warehouse height is generally over 15 meters, and in some high-bay applications it can reach up to 30 meters. Structural design is validated through finite element analysis to ensure stability under full load and seismic conditions.

Stacker Crane System
As the core execution equipment, the stacker crane operates with three degrees of freedom: horizontal travel, vertical lifting, and fork extension/retraction. It typically adopts a double-column mast structure with variable-frequency or servo drive systems to ensure smooth and high-speed operation. Laser positioning technology is used to achieve high-precision positioning throughout the entire travel range.

Conveying and Control System
Roller or chain conveyors are installed at inbound and outbound stations to connect production lines with storage areas. At the control level, the WMS (Warehouse Management System) handles inventory management and task scheduling, while the WCS (Warehouse Control System) executes equipment control and real-time monitoring.

Operating Logic and Workflow

The system operates based on instruction-driven execution with closed-loop feedback.

When the WMS generates an inbound task, storage locations are assigned based on strategies such as SKU consolidation and turnover priority. The WCS then controls the stacker crane to retrieve and store pallets at designated locations. The system supports both single-command operations (inbound or outbound) and combined operations (simultaneous handling), optimizing travel paths to reduce idle movement and improve overall throughput efficiency.

Safety Mechanisms and Protection Design

In heavy-load and high-bay environments, safety is a critical design priority.

Equipment Safety
The stacker crane is equipped with dual braking protection systems. In addition to electrical braking, mechanical safety clamps automatically lock the rail in case of rope failure or overspeed. Hard limit stops are installed at travel endpoints to prevent overrun accidents.

Rack Protection
Anti-collision guards are installed at aisle entrances to protect against accidental impact from forklifts or other mobile equipment. Steel wire mesh panels are installed at the rear of racks to prevent pallet or cargo falling hazards.

Personnel Protection
Maintenance zones are equipped with safety light curtains and pull-cord switches to ensure that equipment cannot be activated when personnel are in hazardous areas.

Typical Application Scenarios

1. Tobacco and Power Equipment Industries
These industries require strict batch control and high-value inventory management. The system enables full traceability throughout the product lifecycle through access control and data logging, ensuring inventory accuracy.

2. Cold Chain Logistics Centers
In low-temperature environments ranging from -18°C to -25°C, stacker cranes use low-temperature-resistant materials and specialized lubricants to ensure stable operation while minimizing manual intervention and reducing cold energy loss.

3. Automotive and Heavy Manufacturing
Used for storing heavy components such as engines and transmissions. Integrated with production line pacing, the system supports JIT (Just-In-Time) delivery, reducing buffer inventory and improving manufacturing flexibility.

Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance

Modern pallet AS/RS systems incorporate advanced condition monitoring technologies.

Through IoT gateways, the system continuously collects operational data such as motor current, bearing temperature, and vibration frequency. Analytical models are used to detect performance degradation trends and generate early maintenance alerts before failures occur. This predictive maintenance approach significantly reduces unplanned downtime and ensures continuous system operation.

The stacker crane pallet warehouse combines precision mechanical engineering with intelligent software systems, transforming warehouse space into a strategic asset for enterprises. It serves as a key hub connecting production, supply, and distribution, and plays a critical role in enabling digital transformation of modern supply chains.
