Four-way Shuttle Intelligent Automated Storage and Retrieval System (Four-way Shuttle Intelligent AS/RS) is a modern warehousing system that uses standard pallets or bins as unit loads. It enables fully automated storage and retrieval through four-way shuttles that can freely switch layers and travel across lanes within a multi-level rack structure, supported by vertical lifts and conveyor systems. The solution combines high-density storage with operational flexibility and is suitable for a wide range of industries.


System Composition: Core Equipment and Architecture

Intelligent Four-way Shuttle:
Adopts a modular design and can travel freely along X-axis and Y-axis directions on rack rails. It is equipped with intelligent obstacle avoidance and automatic charging systems, enabling 24/7 continuous operation. The vehicle uses lightweight materials for smooth operation and low energy consumption.

Multi-level Rack System:
A standardized steel structure composed of uprights, beams, and guide rails. Rack height typically ranges from 6 to 30 meters and can be customized according to warehouse conditions. Supports single-deep and double-deep storage modes to improve space utilization.

Vertical Lift System:
Responsible for vertical movement of shuttles between rack levels. Common types include fork-docking lifts and continuous elevators. Some systems use high-speed lifts for improved throughput efficiency.

Intelligent Conveyor System:
Consists of roller conveyors, chain conveyors, and transfer units. It connects inbound areas, outbound areas, and picking stations, forming a complete automated logistics network.

Operational Workflow: Automated Closed Loop

1. Inbound Management
After palletizing or packing, goods are placed on inbound conveyor lines via forklifts or AGVs. The system automatically identifies barcodes or RFID tags, and WMS assigns storage locations based on SKU attributes (category, batch, size, etc.) and storage strategy.

2. Intelligent Storage Strategy
Upon receiving instructions, the shuttle travels along the planned route to the target location and stores goods using a lifting mechanism. The system supports FIFO, LIFO, and random storage strategies, as well as batch and expiry-based management.

3. Outbound Execution
When outbound orders are received, WMS dispatches shuttles to retrieve target goods. Full-pallet orders are sent directly to outbound areas via conveyors, while split orders are delivered to picking stations for manual or automated handling.

4. Intelligent Inventory and Optimization
The system can automatically schedule vehicles for cycle counting to ensure inventory accuracy. Data analysis enables identification of storage hotspots and optimization of slot allocation for improved efficiency.
